Social Prescribing
Social prescribers support people with non-medical issues that may be affecting their health and wellbeing, such as social isolation, housing problems, financial concerns, or lifestyle challenges. Instead of offering medical treatment, they take time to listen and understand what matters to each person, then connect them to community services, support groups, or activities that can help improve their overall quality of life. Their role is person-centred and holistic, aiming to empower individuals to take control of their health and wellbeing by addressing the wider social and emotional factors that influence it. Social prescribing can reduce pressure on GPs and other healthcare services by providing more appropriate, community-based support for issues that do not require clinical intervention.
